MHR Faculty and Staff

Mr. Tom Montague has a BA in Art with a focus on ceramics and has worked with many famous artists including Tim Rollins, Wenda Gu, Alexis Rockman, and Alex Katz. Mr. Montague believes that the art room is “a place where we can get very silly, but only after we get some serious work done.” All students attend art twice a week.  They learn many techniques on how to create well thought out, asymmetrical compositions, understanding colors, line quality, repetition of shapes and so on. Lessons are often designed in collaboration with classroom teachers to help enhance what the students are studying in other subjects. Last year, Mr. Montague joined Mrs. Holzhauer at Syracuse University to teach SU students all about Literacy in Art and Music. Now he has a student teacher from SU with him who is learning, first hand, the skills he uses in his room.
